Existing and why we should
"How rare and beautiful it is to even exist."
I was listening to a song called Saturn (by Sleeping at Last) and that line kinda hit me, and contrary to the song, I actually had a pen nearby and was able to write it down. Later, I watched a TED talk where this girl performed the song and before she did she explained what it meant to her. One thing she said in particular kinda resonated with me, she said (I'm paraphrasing here, I'll attach the link below) that sometimes we get so lost in the vastness of the universe, we get so lost in our own insignificance that we deem ourselves fully insignificant; However, she also says that yeah, the universe is big, but we're still breathing, and that has to mean something, right?
Well, I've been thinking about this for a while, (a whole forty-five minutes 😂) and I think that as a Christian, the fact that we are breathing means incredibly much more than something. God could've easily made us robots or not even created us at all, but that's not what he did. He created us humans, living, breathing, thinking, feeling and emotional beings. He created us so that we can feel the weight of our insignificance and gave us the ability to turn it into our driving force. Like, if we as Christians can feel insignificant and hopeless and alone in our extensive universe, imagine how someone who doesn't know about their creator feels.
Imagine the times where you've felt hopeless. Imagine the times where you didn't think you'd make it. Imagine the nights that you tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep because your brain couldn't stop reliving every mistake you've ever made. Now, remember how you felt when you knew that God was there. Remember the relief that flooded through your body and your heart. Remember the peace, the peace that stilled the storms and crashing waves inside of you. Remember the times where you cried out desperately for help, and God answered you.
Imagine what it would feel like to live like that permanently, going through all of that, without knowing God was there. Feeling completely and utterly alone. As children of God, we might feel alone at times, but deep down we know we never are. Other people don't know that. Some people get so lost in what they perceive as their life's meaninglessness and they could never consider that their live has meaning, that it's valuable and important. To some, there is no reason for living. There is no reason to exist. You can live and love and be a great person, but one day, you'll die. For so many people, death is the absolute end; it's the grey cloud that looms over people on a sunny day because they don't know when it will happen, don't know why it happens but they know it will.
Without Jesus, we have no purpose. Ultimately, everything we'd do on this earth would be futile and pointless. There would be no need to be a decent person because our lives would begin and end with a single breath. BUT, we do have Jesus. We do have a purpose. That purpose is to go tell all those living in deep darkness, all those who live purposeless and meaningless lives, that they, in fact, do have a purpose and a future that's incredible ad beyond compare to anything else. So yeah, how truly rare and beautiful it is that we exist. And it's even more beautiful and rare that we have a purpose and a meaning and that we humans, you reading this, are important. So guys, keep existing and if you don't already, help other people realize why they should.
